Baoulé African Mask
This Baoulé African mask is from the Goli group, traditionally used in ritual during funerals and times of serious danger. It's a Kple-Kple type mask, often worn by youngsters, signifying the arrival of the powerful Golin Glin. The mask features a circular face with ram-like horns, symbolizing a connection to Nyamye, the creator god. Its simple lines, toothed mouth, and white circular design on the face may have been influenced by flat masks from the Volta region in Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast. Circa 1970's
