Butterstone, also know as Butter Jade (though not a true "Jade"), is a yellow-toned sedimentary rock with striations formed from fossilized algae and typically dates to around 50 million years old. It is a very hard stone (between 6-7 on the Mohs scale), making it a challenging medium to work with and resulting in work of art that will stand the test of time.
